Snowmobilers Rescue Tired Young Moose Buried in New Hampshire Snow

In the picturesque landscapes of New Hampshire, a heartwarming tale unfolded when a group of snowmobilers came to the rescue of a young moose who found itself in quite the predicament. After a thrilling morning of riding over snow drifts that towered between four and five feet high, Mike Dion and his friends stumbled upon an unexpected yet urgent scene: a moose, trapped and buried up to its neck in snow. Its worried eyes and the tiny tuft of its mane peeking out were enough to tug at anyone's heartstrings.

Despite their initial concern, Dion recounted how they found the moose surprisingly calm, albeit exhausted. “Everyone looks at their cellphone, no service,” he shared. The group’s first instinct was to call Fish and Game, but with no signal, they realized they had to take action themselves. “Well, if we don’t do nothing,” Dion reflected, “the moose probably isn’t going to survive.”

With determination and care, the snowmobilers began the gentle task of digging the moose out, working tirelessly for about 20 minutes on their hands and knees. Their efforts were rewarded when they finally managed to free the beautiful creature. “Eventually, we got her up and got her going, and she seemed to be all in good health,” Dion said with relief. Thankfully, the moose showed no signs of aggression, which had initially been a concern for the rescuers.

After ensuring the moose was steady on her feet, the group took a moment to appreciate the joy of the moment before heading home. A representative from the Fish and Game Department later reminded everyone that while moose can be unpredictable when cornered, the best course of action in such situations is to contact the department for assistance.

This uplifting story echoes other inspiring rescue efforts, reminding us of the kindness and compassion that can shine through in times of need. Whether it's freeing a moose from a snowbank or helping a neighbor in distress, these acts of goodwill warm our hearts and inspire us all to lend a helping hand when it matters most.
