For the past 14 years, a wonderful initiative in Moncton has been bringing joy to families by providing free bicycles and tricycles to children in need. The inspiring Krista Richard has dedicated herself to this heartwarming cause, organizing giveaways that brighten the lives of many.

"The reward of seeing kids smile and ride off on their bikes is priceless," Krista shares, capturing the essence of her mission through her program, Bikes and Trikes for Everyone.

Throughout the year, Krista actively collects donated bicycles, refurbishing them to ensure they're ready for their new young riders. The giveaways take place from April to October, and last year alone, she had 400 eager children waiting for their chance to receive a bike. Among them were Younis and Aws, who were so excited they donned their best outfits and got their hair styled for the special day when they would finally ride off on their very first bikes.

In a conversation with CBC News, Krista shared that she has given away thousands of bicycles over the years, emphasizing the importance of outdoor activity for children. "With all these video games, there’s no social contact and people don’t know who their neighbors are anymore," she noted. However, she believes that when kids ride their bikes together, it fosters friendships among them and their families, creating a stronger sense of community.

Every Sunday, Krista and a dedicated team of volunteers come together to make these giveaways happen. While the team primarily focuses on collecting donated bikes, Krista takes the lead in many other aspects of the program. She even began to collect adult bikes, ensuring that parents can join in on the fun and share memorable riding experiences with their children.
