This story shines a light on two dear friends, Mary Ann Carroll and Anjie Lynchard, who came together through both heartache and hope, ultimately crafting a beautiful plan that would change lives forever.

Fifteen years ago, Anjie moved across the street from Mary Ann in Columbia, Maryland. Their sons, Jared and Phillip, quickly became the best of friends, sharing countless adventures filled with biking, fishing, and exploring nature together. However, after just three years, the families lost touch as Anjie and her family relocated.

Fast forward to a year ago, when tragedy struck the Lynchard family with the sudden passing of 23-year-old Jared. In a moment of compassion, Mary Ann visited Anjie to offer her condolences and comfort, bringing along a prayer shawl. During this heartfelt visit, Mary Ann revealed her own struggle with a serious illness—end-stage liver disease—which required a transplant.

Mary Ann’s name was placed on the national waiting list for a liver donor, a list that at the time had over 10,200 names. After their visit, Anjie felt inspired and prayed for a miracle to save her friend. Little did she know that she would soon become that miracle.

Months later, Anjie saw a Facebook post from Mary Ann seeking a living donor. Driven by her strong faith, Anjie felt compelled to honor Jared’s memory by offering to be tested as a potential donor. Though Mary Ann hesitated, not wanting to impose on her friend, Anjie’s determination was fueled by a profound realization. Her husband, Steve, had recalled a message from a minister during a missionary trip shortly after Jared’s passing, saying, “Out of Jared’s death, new life will be born.” This sentiment resonated deeply with Anjie, convincing her to proceed with her offer.

To Mary Ann’s joy, Anjie was found to be a suitable match, and the two friends prepared for the transplant surgery, scheduled for December 3, 2024. Anjie felt a sense of divine timing in this date, as it coincided with a sermon that had deeply impacted Jared just a year earlier, titled “The Perfect Plan.” This moment felt like a heartfelt message from Jared, reassuring Anjie that she was making the right choice.

The surgery, performed at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, was a success. Anjie donated a portion of her liver, and the advanced robotic surgical system made the procedure minimally invasive, ensuring a smoother recovery for both women.

Three months after the transplant, Mary Ann is thriving, feeling grateful for the renewed life she has been given. She believes that a higher power played a significant role in their reunion and the miraculous turn of events that followed.
