Taylor Swift Gives $50,000 to Support Mother Injured While Saving Teenager
A Connecticut mother’s courageous act of kindness has inspired an outpouring of generosity, including a $50,000 contribution from Taylor Swift.
Ashley Taunton, a 42-year-old certified nursing assistant and mother of three, sustained life-threatening injuries after stopping to help a group of teenagers involved in an accident on Interstate 95 in Rhode Island.
Taunton was traveling south with her youngest daughter in July when she encountered the teenagers, whose vehicle had hydroplaned during a rainstorm. She pulled over and began guiding them to safety.
As Taunton helped the group, another vehicle hydroplaned toward them. She pushed one teenager out of harm’s way before being struck herself and taking the force of the collision.
Taunton has undergone two major operations and is expected to need additional surgeries. Her family says her recovery may take as long as a year, but supporters have rallied around them throughout the difficult journey.
Swift’s gift is the largest individual contribution to the GoFundMe created for Taunton’s recovery. As of Friday, Aug. 28, the fundraiser had received more than $64,000. A separate Meal Train campaign had also collected over $16,000 for the family.
Along with her donation, Swift shared a warm message of encouragement: “Wishing you the best recovery possible and sending love to your family! Taylor.”
The contribution reflects Swift’s longstanding commitment to assisting people facing medical crises, accidents and natural disasters. Over the years, she has quietly supported numerous online fundraisers benefiting both fans and strangers.
Swift and her husband, Travis Kelce, also recently donated a combined $26 million to 20 charities across the United States ahead of their July wedding at Madison Square Garden.
Taunton’s bravery and the generous response it inspired offer a powerful reminder of the good that can emerge when people choose to protect, encourage and care for one another.
