Residents at Maplewood Court in Maidstone, Kent, recently enjoyed a delightful afternoon that left them feeling rejuvenated and vibrant. A fun photo shoot, complete with stylish wigs and colorful outfits, allowed the seniors to embrace their youthful spirits and creativity.
Thanks to the innovative efforts of the facility’s dedicated ‘Lifestyle Team,’ the residents were treated to a glamorous experience inspired by a trending social media video. With an array of fabulous attire, including floral wigs, oversized sunglasses, hats, and statement pearls, the excitement among the 72 residents was palpable.
The brilliant idea came from staff members Laura Taylor and Jo Morgan, who cleverly kept the plans under wraps until the big day. “There was such a buzz in the home,” shared Taylor, highlighting the anticipation that filled the air.
The joy of dressing up was a key element of the event, as Taylor explained, “We loved the idea of giving our residents the chance not just to dress up but to go over the top and feel fabulous.” The atmosphere was filled with laughter and enthusiasm, with centenarian Hilda Howes expressing her delight, saying, “I loved it; they made me look 80 instead of 100! It was so much fun to dress up in all the bright clothes.”
The team sourced beautiful wigs online, while other staff members contributed accessories like jewelry, scarves, and sunglasses. Care assistant Deb Eve helped the ladies with their makeup, while Morgan captured the memorable moments with her daughter’s assistance. “We were thrilled that everyone was so keen to get dressed up,” said Morgan. “The whole thing lifted everyone’s mood; it was wonderful to see.”
The joy didn’t end with the photo shoot. The team plans to print the photos for residents to proudly display in their rooms, and an exhibition in the lobby is also in the works. One excited 92-year-old resident, Violet Syers, expressed her anticipation, saying, “I’ll be able to look at it every day and see how fabulous I looked.”
This uplifting event not only brought smiles to the faces of the seniors but also serves as a wonderful idea for other senior homes to replicate. Sharing this joyful experience can inspire more communities to create similar moments of happiness!
