In the heart of Tennessee, there's a remarkable family that embodies the spirit of kindness and compassion. Caleb and Ruchala Bone have opened their home and hearts to children with complex medical conditions, earning them the beautiful title of “angels on Earth.”
Recently, the couple celebrated a special milestone: the adoption of their fourth child, Isabella. Like their biological son, Griffin, who bravely faced a heart condition, Isabella has spent much of her early life in the hospital. The journey they embarked on with Griffin ignited their passion for creating a big family filled with children who need extra love and care.
When Griffin required open-heart surgery at just three months old, Caleb and Ruchala found themselves frequently visiting Vanderbilt Children's Hospital. During this time, they became aware of many children in the foster system who were also facing complex medical challenges. With hearts full of empathy, they felt a calling to make a difference.
In 2022, they welcomed little Maurice into their family, a joyful boy who needed a kidney transplant. Now, Maurice is thriving and often seen exploring the courthouse with his new siblings, a testament to the love and support that surrounds him.
The Bones have fostered and adopted four children with unique medical needs, in collaboration with a wonderful foster program called Youth Villages. Suzanne Jones, the program’s director, affectionately refers to Caleb and Ruchala as “angels on Earth,” and it’s clear why—these two are truly extraordinary people.
As foster parents, they have undergone extensive training to provide the best care for their medically needy children. For instance, Isabella came to them at just five months old, already having undergone open-heart surgery. Thanks to the state’s TennCare program, the ongoing medical care is well-supported, along with a foster parent stipend and assistance.
Ruchala shared their humble perspective, stating, “We don’t know if we’d say we feel chosen or we’re the right people, but we said yes.” Their willingness to embrace this calling speaks volumes about their character and commitment to nurturing these children.
The Bone family's journey is a heartwarming reminder of the profound impact that love and compassion can have on the lives of children in need. Their story inspires us all to open our hearts and consider how we can contribute to the well-being of others.
