Dads Surprise Beloved Crossing Guard with New Car, Raising Thousands!

In a heartwarming display of community spirit, a group of dedicated fathers from Moss Haven Elementary in North Texas came together to surprise a cherished school crossing guard, Ms. Trecia Crawford, with a brand-new car. This uplifting gesture has left both Ms. Crawford and the surrounding community filled with joy.

Ms. Crawford is a beloved figure at Moss Haven Elementary, known for her kindness and unwavering dedication to the safety of the children she oversees. With her warm smile and friendly demeanor, she knows many parents by name and has become an integral part of the school environment. Unfortunately, for the past six months, Ms. Crawford has faced transportation challenges after her car broke down, making it difficult for her to get to work. She shared, “I was Lyfting here, and then when I ran out of money, I had to get on the bus. But I had to do what I had to do.”

Upon hearing about her situation, the Moss Haven Dad’s Club sprang into action. They united their resources and talents to restore Ms. Crawford's ability to drive. Marcus Waither, a member of the Dad’s Club, spearheaded the fundraising efforts. He also organizes the “Carpool Dads,” who help transport children to school each morning, enhancing safety and saving parents on gas expenses. Inspired by Ms. Crawford’s dedication, Waither proposed raising funds to purchase her a new vehicle.

The response was overwhelming, as the Dad’s Club managed to collect an astonishing $6,800 in just a few days. With their goal in sight, Waither reached out to local dad Adam Tharpe, who serves as the general manager of Highland Lake Automotive. Tharpe facilitated the purchase of a reliable white Jeep at a favorable price and ensured it was in excellent condition, even including some complimentary oil change coupons.

Once the vehicle was secured, another dad from the club, Jeremy Graves, stepped in to handle the insurance for Ms. Crawford’s new car, ensuring everything was taken care of.

The big reveal came on a sunny morning in early March, when the dads surprised Ms. Crawford while she was on duty. The moment was captured in a Facebook post from the school district, showcasing Ms. Crawford’s stunned expression as she learned about the thoughtful gift.

In a blog post celebrating this community effort, the Richardson Independent School District remarked, “Community isn’t just a buzzword; it’s the action, time, and commitment of the parents, teachers, staff, and all those who show up in the smallest and biggest ways.”

This beautiful act of kindness not only brightened Ms. Crawford’s day but also serves as a reminder of the incredible impact that a caring community can have. It’s a wonderful testament to the power of teamwork and compassion as the dads of Moss Haven Elementary demonstrated their commitment to helping a local hero in need.
