Book Fairies Gift 25,000 Books to NYC Kids Thanks to Generous Donation!

Exciting news is on the horizon for underserved communities in New York City and Long Island! Over 25,000 books are set to be distributed, bringing joy and knowledge to eager readers.

This wonderful initiative is being spearheaded by Book Fairies, a nonprofit organization that has been dedicated to spreading the love of reading since 2012. With an impressive history of donating 6 million books to Title I schools, educators, and community partners, Book Fairies continues to make a significant impact.

This generous donation comes from ThriftBooks, the largest online retailer of used books. Together with Book Fairies, they organize large-scale distribution events, where community leaders and educators can access books that may otherwise be out of reach due to budget constraints.

The logistics of moving 25,000 books is no small feat! At the Book Fairies' central receiving and sorting area, volunteers work diligently to categorize the books by reading level and destination. Using pallet jacks, they carefully transport large boxes filled with these treasures.

Dan Schwartzberg, who handles media relations for 4Media Group, witnessed the heartwarming impact of Book Fairies at one of their free book events. He shared a touching story of a teacher who, after being denied funding for books she desperately wanted for her classroom, found them at Book Fairies for free. The joy and relief on her face were unforgettable.

"Book Fairies has an incredible track record of getting books into the hands of children and families," said Barbara Hagen, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for ThriftBooks. She emphasized that ThriftBooks is not just about selling books; their mission revolves around saving and sharing them, ensuring that reading is accessible to all. Partnering with Book Fairies truly brings this mission to life, opening up a world of books for countless children and their families.

Courtney Collins, Associate Executive Director for Book Fairies, expressed her excitement about the donation. Last year, the organization faced a shortfall of 28,000 books in response to requests from various partners and schools. This generous gift will make a remarkable difference. "That’s 25,000 opportunities to provide what we otherwise would not have been able to provide, so it’s going to change so many lives," Collins noted, pointing out that limited access to books is a leading cause of delayed literacy in children.

This initiative is a fantastic opportunity to enhance children's literacy and foster a love for reading. Let’s celebrate this wonderful contribution and share the joy of books with those who need them most!
