Kayden Beasley’s incredible journey is a heartwarming testament to resilience and love. Born in a Chinese orphanage without lower leg bones, Kayden’s life took a remarkable turn when he was adopted on Christmas Day at the age of three by Anthony and Amy Beasley, who welcomed him into their warm and supportive family in a charming North Carolina town.

From the very beginning, Kayden embraced his new life. “It’s all I’ve ever known,” he reflected about his loving family, emphasizing that while his adoption is an important part of his story, it’s just one piece of a much larger journey. Alongside his older brother, who was also adopted from China, Kayden flourished in an environment filled with care and encouragement.
At the age of 13, Kayden discovered the Carolina Hurricanes sled hockey club, an adaptive sport that allows individuals with disabilities to enjoy ice hockey. His first experience was a joyful success, and Brian Jacoby, the Founder and Co-Director of the Carolina Hurricanes Sled Hockey, recognized his potential immediately. “He’s a natural, and he’s never looked back,” Jacoby said, recalling how Kayden was named player of the game during his first international tournament.
With newfound passion and purpose, Kayden soared past any limitations. He was invited to a Team USA development camp and ultimately secured a place on the national team. His skills shone brightly at the 2025 World Para Ice Hockey Championship, where he contributed significantly to Team USA's gold medal victory with two goals and five assists.
This month, Kayden proudly represented his country at the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Paralympics, just weeks after the USA’s men’s and women’s teams triumphed at the Winter Olympics. At only 19, he remains one of the youngest members of Team USA yet made a remarkable impact, playing in all five games and scoring three goals, helping the team clinch another gold medal.
Shane Willis, the Hurricanes Director of Youth Hockey and Community Outreach, expressed his joy, stating, “Happy, proud, excited; I am not sure what describes my emotions the best.” He eagerly anticipates the growth of Hurricanes Sled Hockey and the inspiration Kayden provides for young athletes.
Kayden Beasley’s journey, filled with love and determination, demonstrates that barriers can be overcome. His achievements not only bring pride to his family and community but also inspire countless others to chase their dreams and break through their own obstacles.
