Grateful Woman Shares Lottery Winnings to Bless Others

Carrie Edwards, a shining example of generosity, recently celebrated a remarkable win with the Virginia Lottery, taking home an impressive $150,000. This joyful occasion became even more special as she decided to donate her entire winnings to three charities that hold deep significance in her heart.

After matching four out of five numbers along with the Powerball, Carrie’s initial prize of $50,000 was tripled thanks to a Powerplay option, bringing her total winnings to an exciting $150,000. Although the drawing took place on September 8, the fulfillment of her charitable intentions unfolded just yesterday.

In a beautiful gesture of remembrance and compassion, Carrie made her first donation to the Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration (AFTD), an organization dedicated to vital research and resources for families facing early-onset dementia. This cause is particularly meaningful to her, as it honors her late husband, Steve, who bravely battled the disease. "This cause is deeply personal," she remarked during FTD Awareness Month. "I wanted this gift to shine a light on the families who are fighting this disease and on the researchers working toward a cure. God is blessing me so I can bless others through him."

The second portion of her donation went to Shalom Farms, a wonderful initiative based in Richmond that aims to enhance food access for underprivileged residents and low-income families. This organization embodies the spirit of community and nourishment, making it a perfect fit for Carrie’s generous heart.

Finally, she contributed to the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society, an organization that supports active-duty and retired service members and their families through various programs, including educational assistance. This donation reflects Carrie’s commitment to uplifting those who serve our country and their loved ones in times of need.

Carrie beautifully articulated her motivations: "These three organizations represent healing, service, and community. Shalom Farms heals through food and soil, AFTD brings hope through research, and the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society carries forward the tradition of supporting military families in times of need."

Khalid Jones, Executive Director of the Virginia Lottery, expressed his delight, stating, "All of us at the Lottery are delighted to see this prize being shared with worthy causes, due to the wonderful generosity of Carrie Edwards."

Through her remarkable act of kindness, Carrie Edwards not only hopes to make a significant impact on the charities she has chosen but also aspires to inspire others in Virginia to embrace generosity and kindness. Her story is a beautiful reminder of the good that can come from sharing our blessings with those in need.
