Olivia Rodrigo’s Daisy Chain Fields Raises $20 Million for Women and Girls
Olivia Rodrigo’s inaugural Daisy Chain Fields festival turned music and generosity into a remarkable $20 million gift for organizations supporting women and girls.
The one-day, all-women festival initially raised $10 million for its charitable partners. Melinda French Gates then matched the full amount through Pivotal, doubling the total impact.
“What @daisychainfields set in motion will last far beyond a single night,” French Gates wrote on Instagram. “I was so inspired by @oliviarodrigo’s vision, which is why I couldn’t be prouder to contribute $10 million through @pivotaldotcom, doubling the amount this extraordinary community already raised for organizations supporting women & girls.”
Rodrigo welcomed French Gates to the stage during her headlining performance Saturday, August 29, at Great Park in Irvine, California. There, they shared the uplifting news with the festival crowd.
“Melinda is one of the most inspiring women I’ve ever met. She’s devoted her life to empowering women and girls that might have otherwise been forgotten,” Rodrigo said. “She’s generous and brave and has done so much good in this world, and I’m totally floored because as well as being in attendance here tonight, she’s pledged to double every dollar that we made here today to a grand total of funds being donated to $20 million. I’m so grateful!”
The festival’s original $10 million will benefit Baby2Baby, Black Mamas Matter Alliance, Center for Reproductive Rights, FreeFrom, Jhpiego, Johns Hopkins Center for Indigenous Health, National Domestic Workers Alliance, National Institute for Reproductive Health, National Women’s Law Center and Planned Parenthood.
Rodrigo announced the first fundraising milestone at a press conference Friday, August 28. During the festival, she also expressed her appreciation to the participating performers, all of whom donated their time and appeared without payment.
The 23-year-old singer personally assembled the all-star lineup, bringing together Chappell Roan, Doechii, Mitski, Garbage, The Breeders and Bikini Kill. Stevie Nicks and Sarah McLachlan also joined the celebration as special guests.
With artists, audiences and philanthropists united around a shared purpose, Daisy Chain Fields transformed a single day of music into lasting support for women and girls.
