Tiny Dog Found Safe After Nearly Three Weeks on English Mountain
A devoted community effort brought a joyful ending to the search for Teddy, a tiny dog who spent nearly three weeks missing in England’s Lake District.
Teddy disappeared on August 2 while hiking with an owner on Helvellyn, the country’s third-highest peak. Concerned residents and volunteers put up posters and continued searching, determined to bring the beloved pet home.
Their perseverance paid off on August 21, when volunteers heard barking from Dry Gill, a steep ravine on the mountain’s slopes. They managed to locate Teddy but could not safely reach the spot where the dog was trapped.
The Keswick Mountain Rescue Team quickly stepped in. Seven team members worked for three and a half hours to complete the challenging rescue. Teddy was carefully secured inside a rucksack and given a small amount of food before being carried down the mountain.
Although Teddy had lost considerable weight, there were thankfully no obvious injuries. At the car park, the little survivor was reunited with the owner and then taken to a veterinarian for care.
“The news of this missing dog had deeply affected so many people across our local community,” the rescue team wrote on Facebook.
“We are absolutely delighted to share this update: A remarkable outcome after nearly three weeks on Helvellyn.
“And a huge well done to everyone who kept searching and never gave up on Teddy.”
Thanks to the compassion, determination and teamwork of volunteers and rescuers, Teddy’s long ordeal ended with a safe return home.
