Dedicated Detective Reunites Family With Stolen Wedding Ring After Months of Searching

A small-town police detective in LeRoy, New York, helped bring comfort and closure to a family after their loved one’s cherished wedding ring was stolen from a nursing home.

The ring belonged to an elderly resident living with dementia, who was unable to speak up or care for herself. When her family realized the meaningful heirloom was missing, they contacted the LeRoy Police Department.

Detective Kaden Vangalio took on the case with remarkable care and determination. Though the investigation stretched on for months and produced few leads at first, he continued following every possible path. He conducted interviews, searched databases, and kept working patiently until the trail led him to Buffalo, the nearest large city.

There, Vangalio personally visited pawn shops in hopes of finding the missing ring. His commitment paid off when he discovered the wedding ring at a Buffalo pawn shop. He was also able to obtain the bill of sale, which included the signature of the suspect, who has since been charged with larceny in connection with taking the ring while employed at the nursing home.

“During the investigation, Clark was evasive and avoided contact with investigators for months,” the department wrote. “Through persistent follow-up and continued investigative work, she ultimately turned herself in to face the charges.”

For the family, the return of the ring meant far more than recovering a piece of jewelry. It restored a treasured symbol of love, memory, and family history.

“This may not be the crime of the century, but you cannot put a price on the sentimental value of a wedding ring. We are proud to help bring closure to this family and grateful for the excellent work of Detective Vangalio in making that happen,.”
