California Deputies Help Deliver Baby in Remarkable Rescue After Routine Call
What began as an ordinary call for Rancho Cordova police deputies quickly became a joyful, life-saving moment.
Deputy Foster Tracy had responded to a report of suspicious activity near a local business, where a woman was found sitting between two bushes. At first, the situation appeared simple and familiar.
“It was zero to a hundred really fast. It was one of those calls you go to, run-of-the-mill,” Deputy Foster Tracy said. “This was definitely not something that I was prepared for at any part of the day.”
Then the deputy realized the woman was in labor.
“‘Excuse me?'” Tracy remembers saying, as the news took a moment to sink in, “‘you’re having a baby?'”
According to CBS News, the woman had been asking for help for “hours.” Tracy immediately called for medical support, but it was clear the baby was arriving right away. With no time to spare, he knelt beside the mother and began helping.
Soon, Tracy’s partner arrived, and the deputies discovered a serious complication: the umbilical cord was wrapped around the newborn’s neck. The baby’s coloring made the situation even more frightening.
“I was concerned the baby was deceased because it was purple and blue.”
But the deputies stayed focused and kept working. Their quick action helped turn a frightening emergency into a beautiful outcome: the baby survived, and both mother and child were taken to the hospital to recover.
The deputies have since been praised for their compassionate response and life-saving efforts. The mother, the police chief, and the business owners whose call unexpectedly led to the rescue all recognized the goodness of what happened that day.
A routine call became a moment of courage, care, and new life.
