Daughter Co-Pilots Flight With Dad and Mom on Cabin Crew

A shared flight became a joyful milestone for KLM pilot Zoë de Bruijn: for the first time, she flew alongside her father, Captain Michel de Bruijn, while her mother, Marjan van Nooijen, cared for passengers in the cabin.

The family hadn’t planned to work together. Their schedules simply happened to place all three on the same flight out of Amsterdam in August. For Zoë, 22, the surprise made a special day even sweeter. “It was such a wonderful experience.”

Aviation has been part of Zoë’s life since childhood. She watched Michel leave for work in his pilot’s uniform and grew curious about the places he flew. As she got older, visits to his workplace turned that curiosity into a passion of her own. She went on to attend the KLM Flight Academy after being accepted at 17.

Zoë had flown with her father before, but this flight brought another first: her mother was aboard, too. The moment carried extra meaning because her parents had met while working on a flight. “My parents met while working on a flight, so it really felt like a full circle moment.”
